Preparation for Transferring your Domain:

In order to successfully transfer your domain to us, we will require your domain name at the originating registrar to be in an "Unlocked" state.  This is typically accomplished through the registrar's administration panel.  We will also require an EPP code, (sometimes referred to as a Domain Transfer Authorization Code, or just Auth Code).  This can often be requested through the registrar's administration panel as well, and the code is usually sent to the Admin Contact on your domain's WHOIS record.

Steps to initiate a Domain Transfer to us:

  1. Log into your account at http://domains.compudata.ca.
  2. Select "Domains" -> "Transfer a Domain to Us" from the menu bar.
  3. The "Transfer Domain" screen will appear.
  4. Fill in the first part of your domain in the space provided, (eg. "compudata").
  5. From the drop-down menu at the far right, select the Top Level Domain, (eg. ".ca").
  6. Click the "Transfer" button.
  7. Select any additional domain suggestions you wish to order.  If none, continue to the next step.
  8. Click "Continue".
  9. The "Domains Configuration" screen will appear.
  10. If you would to create a separate web hosting account for your transfer, and have not already configured hosting, you may optionally add hosting at this point, otherwise continue to the next step.
Note: You may associate your domain name using "Parked" or "Add-on" domains if you have an existing web hosting product with us already which supports these features.
  11. Enter the EPP code you acquired during the Preparation phase above.
  12. If you would like DNS management from your account, select it here.  This will allow you to host and configure your DNS records with your https://domains.compudata.ca account.
Note: You may add this option later if you wish.  If in doubt, leave it unchecked.
  13. In the "Nameservers" section, make sure the nameservers are correctly indicated.  The default is our nameservers, but you can change these if you are hosting your DNS somewhere else, (eg. "ns1.somehost.com" and "ns2.somehost.com" - contact your host's support or documentation to know what these should be).
  14. Click the "Continue" button.
  15. The "Review & Checkout" screen will appear.  Once you have reviewed your order, click the "Checkout" button and make your payment.

Additional Notes:

  • Depending on the TLD, some domains will require an additional transfer approval, which is typically emailed to the Admin Account.  Please ensure you check this email account for additional approval instructions.
  • Once all the requirements for a transfer are fulfilled, the transfer may take up to five days to complete.  You may check the status of a transfer in your account.
  • If new nameservers are being used, it may take 24 to 48 hours after the transfer for the changes to propagate across the internet.
