The Inter-Registrar Transfer Policy, (also commonly referred to as IRTP), will prevent a domain name transfer from being initiated within 60 days of:

  • the domain name registration
  • transfer to a different registrar
  • any change to a domain name’s registrant, organization or email address

These events represent a "Change of Registrant" for the registrar, and effectively change the relationship of registrar and registrant.  These registrar policies are allowed by ICANN under their Transfer Policy - ICANN - www.icann.org, and the specific rules governing this may be reviewed there.

If an IRTP transfer lock is in place, the owner must wait for the lock to expire before transferring the domain to a new registrar.  The transfer lock will be lifted 60 days following the registration date, or 60 days following the most recent change to the applicable contact details listed above.
